Alice C. Duruz, age 95, passed away Friday, March 6, 2015 at her residence in the Felician Village, Manitowoc.

Alice was born June 21, 1919 in Manitowoc, daughter of the late John and Angeline (Korlesky) Zagrodnik. She graduated from Lincoln High School, Manitowoc, with the class of 1937 and graduated from the Holy Family School of Nursing class of 1940. She worked as a private duty nurse following her graduation.

In 1943 she joined the Army Nurse Corps and served in the European Theatre. On January 23, 1946 Alice married Col. (Retired) Paul B. Duruz. He preceded her in death on December 20, 2007. During his military career they resided in Davis, California; Corvallis, Oregon; Bruck and Esslingen, Germany; Albuquerque, New Mexico; DeLand, Florida; Augusta, Georgia; Munich, Germany; Verona, Italy; Washington D.C.; and Chevy Chase, Maryland before returning to Manitowoc in 1985. Alice is a member of St. Francis of Assisi Parish. She was active in various women's clubs, Girl Scout Council, and she volunteered at cancer detection clinics. She was also a charter member of Women in Military Service Memorial Foundation. Alice also enjoyed attending Holy Family School of Nursing's class reunions.

She is survived by two nieces: Geraldine and her husband Robert Eaton and Sharon and her husband Norbert Vogt, all of Manitowoc; one nephew: James Zagrodnik and his wife Barbara, Sullivan, Wisconsin; six grand nieces: Dianne and her husband Dr. Kevin Hollabeck, Portage, Cynthia and her husband David Meyer, Manitowoc, Nancy Donahue, Manitowoc, Heather Schneider, Jefferson, Erika Snyder and her husband, Jefferson, and Carla Urbaszewski, Illinios; grand nephews: Michael Maples and his wife Mary, Manitowoc, Thomas Eaton, Manitowoc, Dr. William Maples and his wife Mary Ellen, Florida, and Kevin Vogt, Overland Park, Kansas. She is further survived by great-grand nieces, great-grand nephews, and James J. Maples of Manitowoc, husband of her niece Marilyn who preceded her in death as well as two brothers: Stanley and Dominic Zagrodnik and two sisters: Christine Ploederl and Theresa Tomchek.

Funeral services will be held at 11:30 a.m. Friday, March 13, 2015 at St. Francis of Assisi on Grand, 1416 Grand Avenue, Manitowoc. Officiating at the Mass of Christian Burial will be the Rev. Dave Pleier. Immediately following the service, military rights will be accorded by the VFW Otto Oas Post 659. Entombment will take place at Knollwood Mausoleum, Town of Kossuth.

The family will greet relatives and friends at St. Francis of Assisi on Grand, Manitowoc, from 10:30 a.m. until 11:15 a.m. on Friday, March 13, 2015.
