He was the son of Jacob Cator and Ellen Cator
On January 21, 1879 as Thomas Caton, he married Anna Adams at Manhattan, New York.
On February 5, 1889 as Thomas V. Cator, he married Miss Ethel I. Chapman at Santa Barbara, California.
In January 1902, He filed suit for a separation on the grounds that his wife deserted him. The divorce was granted within 10 days.
On April 12, 1902, he married Grace Hamilton Reid in Reno, Nevada.
On September 14, 1903 Grace B. Hamilton Reid Cator died in California.
On December 6, 1907, Mrs.Ethel Chapman Cator died in San Francisco, California.
On September 3, 1908, he married Mrs. Edith Chapman Houghton, the sister of Ethel Chapman Cator at the Swedenborgian Church in San Francisco, California.
