Sylvester S. Dobinski, age 82, of the Veterans Home in King, WI, died Sunday, June 21, 2009, at Wisconsin Veterans Home, King, WI. He was born December 12, 1926, in Two Rivers, son of the late Stanley and Antoinette (Maroszek) Dobinski.

Sylvester served in the United States Navy during World War II in the South Pacific. On June 21, 1950, he joined the U.S. Army National Guard. Sylvester was a key man in the operation of the Two Rivers and Manitowoc National Guard and received numerous awards for his outstanding record in military service.

On April 19, 1947, he married the former Alice Brull at St. Luke Catholic Church, Two Rivers.

Sylvester was employed at Kelvinator in quality control for 38 years, retiring in 1987. He was a member of the VFW Post #1464, King, Polish Legion of American Veterans Polish Hill 2000, Post #214, Manitowoc, AMVETS Post #99 and Manitowoc Senior Center. Sylvester and Alice enjoyed many of their years traveling the world.

Survivors include his wife: Alice Dobinski, King; two daughters: Kay LeClair, Manitowoc, Karla Dobinski, Kensington, Maryland; three sons and one daughter-in-law: Jim Dobinski, Sherwood, Tim & Michelle Dobinski, Appleton, Richard Dobinski, Chicago; five grandchildren: Craig (Krista) LeClair, Lakeville, Minnesota, TJ and Danielle Dobinski, Appleton, Lina & Renci Freeman, Kensington, Maryland; two great-grandchildren: Katherine & Thomas LeClair, Lakeville, MN; two sisters and four brothers-in-law: Louise & Leonard Vogel, Two Rivers, Dorothy and Michael Samz, Two Rivers, Gil Sczymkowski, Milwaukee, and Alvin Kronforst, Green Bay; special family friends include: Alan Bell, Chicago; Lexie Freeman, Kensington, Maryland; and Leeann Werner and her children: Zach & Anna, Sherwood. Nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends also survive.

He was also preceded in death by four brothers and one sister-in-law: Al Dobinski, Steve Dobinski, Edmund Dobinski, George and Catherine Dobinski; and four sisters and two brothers-in-law: Sue Sczymkowski, Gertrude and William Garceau Sr., Lucille and Francis Graves, and Dolores Kronforst.

Funeral Services will be held at 12 noon Thursday, June 25, 2009, at St. Francis of Assisi on Waldo, Manitowoc. Officiating at the Mass of Christian Burial will be the Rev. Dan Felton with entombment at Knollwood Mausoleum, town of Kossuth. Military Rites will be accorded by AMVETS Post #99. The family will greet relatives and friends at St. Francis of Assisi on Waldo, Manitowoc, from 10:30 a.m. Thursday, June 25, 2009, until the time of service at 12 noon.

The family wishes to send a special thank you to the staff at the Veterans Home in King for their compassionate care and support given to Sylvester and his family. The Pfeffer Funeral Home, Manitowoc, is assisting the family with funeral arrangements.
