Musician, Singer and Songwriter. Born Andrew McLan Fraser, he was a founding member of Free at the age of 15. He started playing the piano at the age of five and switched to guitar at thirteen. As a teen, he was part of John Mayall‘s Bluesbreakers before co-founding Free with Paul Rodgers in the late 1960s, playing bass guitar. Free was active for only a few years, but they released two albums, including 1970s 'Fire and Water', which rose to No. 17 in the U.S. on the momentum of international success for "All Right Now", co-written and produced by Fraser, which was recognized by ASCAP for accumulating one million airplays on U.S. radio by late 1999. Later, Fraser went on to form Sharks with guitarist Chris Spedding before forming the Andy Fraser Band, a trio with Kim Turner on drums and Nick Judd on keyboards. They released two albums, 'Andy Fraser Band' and 'In Your Eyes', both in 1975. After moving to California, he wrote hits for Robert Palmer, Joe Cocker, Chaka Khan, Rod Stewart and Paul Young. In the 1980s, Fraser was diagnosed with AIDS, followed by a diagnosis of Karposi’s Sarcoma, a form of cancer. He later rebounded to play with Rodgers in 1994 for a performance at that year’s Woodstock anniversary. In 2005, he released a solo album, 'Naked … And Finally Free!', followed by 'On Assignment' a few years later.
