Professional Basketball Player. A center and power forward, he is remembered for a nine year NBA career that saw him play for four teams and earn one Championship Ring. The child of noted surfer Jack Haley, Sr., he was raised in Seal Beach, attended Huntington Beach High School, played college ball at Golden West College and later at U.C.L.A., and was selected by the New Jersey Nets as the 79th overall pick in the 1987 NBA draft. Over his time in the league, Haley played for the Nets, the Chicago Bulls, the Los Angeles Lakers, and the San Antonio Spurs, as well as having stints in Europe and the minor league CBA. A part of the Bulls' 1995-1996 World Champion squad, he was hampered by a knee injury, only got into one game, and resented his characterization as problem child Dennis Rodman's "babysitter"; one of the game's free spirits, he once left a liquor bottle at Jim Morrison's Paris grave, had a small role in the Aerosmith video "Love in an Elevator", and even appeared in two movies, 1996's "Eddie" and the 2005 "Rebound". After leaving the court, Haley was a Nets' assistant coach and served on the Lakers' broadcast team; during his NBA career, he scored 1,180 points, averaging 3.5 points and 2.7 rebounds per game. He died of heart disease.
