Dr. Jean Ciardiello , 54, of Lawrenceville, N.J., a licensed psychologist and native Staten Islander, died Friday in Prospect Heights Nursing Home, Hackensack, N.J., where she was treated during the past week.
Born in Arrochar, she moved to Castleton Corners in the early 1950s and to Oakwood in the late-1950s. She relocated to Lawrenceville in 1978.
Dr. Ciardiello briefly worked as a teacher in the Somerville (N.J.) school system during the early 1970s. For more than 25 years she had a private psychology practice in Lawrenceville.
A graduate of St. Joseph Hill Academy, Arrochar, she received a bachelor's degree from the State University of New York at Binghamton and a master of education degree in counseling psychology from Rutgers University, where she also received her doctorate of education. Dr. Ciardiello received certification from the National Psychological Association for Psychoanalysis.
Dr. Ciardiello was the director of program planning and evaluation at the Robert Wood Johnson Medical School at the University of Medicine and Dentistry of New Jersey. She also was a senior faculty member for the National Psychological Association for Psychoanalysis.
In addition, she served on the editorial board and was a contributor to the Psychoanalytic Review; was a faculty supervisor and training analyst at the Institute for Psychoanalysis and Psychotherapy of New Jersey, and was a visiting faculty member of the Graduate School of Education at Rutgers.
Dr. Ciardiello was a co-editor of the book, "Vocational Rehabilitation of Persons with Prolonged Psychiatric Disorders," and was a member of the New Jersey Psychological Association and the American Psychological Association.
Surviving are her daughter, Amy Ciardiello , and a brother, Albert Ciardiello .
The funeral will be Wednesday at 10 a.m. in the Martin Hughes Funeral Home, Concord. Burial will be in Moravian Cemetery, New Dorp.
