Jennie Ciardiello , 82, a retired beautician and passionate orchid grower, died yesterday in her Oakwood home.

Born Jennie DiStefano in Manhattan, she moved to Arrochar in her early teens. She also lived in Castleton Corners before settling in Oakwood.

Mrs. Ciardiello worked at a number of jobs all over Staten Island, including a hat factory in Clifton. She was also a beautician in several beauty parlors in Great Kills and New Dorp. During World War II, she made munitions on the Island.

After retiring in 1973, Mrs. Ciardiello lovingly cultivated her flower garden, and began growing orchids.

"Orchids were her love," said her son, Albert. "The house was always full of them."

Mrs. Ciardiello also enjoyed being with her 7-year-old granddaughter, Amy. The two spent every Sunday together.

Her husband, Albert S. Ciardiello , died in 2000.

In addition to her son, Albert, and her granddaughter, surviving is her daughter, Jean Ciardiello .

The funeral will be Thursday from the Martin Hughes Funeral Home, Concord, with a mass at 10:30 a.m. in Our Lady Queen of Peace R.C. Church, New Dorp. Burial will follow in Moravian Cemetery, also New Dorp.
