Civil War Union Brevet Brigadier General. He served during the Civil War as Colonel and commander of the 12th West Virginia Volunteer Infantry. He was brevetted Brigadier General, US Volunteers on March 13, 1865 for "gallant and meritorious services in the capture of Fort Gregg, and for faithful and efficient services during the war".
