Donald R. Dedering, 83, of 1167 Robins Nest Ct. New Holstein and formerly of Kiel died peacefully on Friday morning March 20, 2015 at Sheboygan Memorial Medical Center. He was born August 26, 1931 in Kiel, son of the late Arthur & Lydia (Mathes) Dedering. Don was a 1949 graduate of Kiel High School. Don was a proud veteran of the U.S. Army, serving with the 33rd Infantry Division as Staff Sargeant during the Korean Conflict from 1952 until 1954. He continued his service with the Army Reserve until his discharge in 1960. On June 4, 1955 Don was united in marriage to Elizabeth “Betty” Steiner at St. John the Baptist Catholic Church, Plymouth. Don and Betty shared 55 years together until she preceded him in death on August 6, 2010. In 1950, after High School, Don began his career with AA Laun Furniture Co. He faithfully worked there, returning after Korea, until 1993 when he retired from Laun as their Plant Manager. During that time he was active professionally, serving as President of the Lakeshore Cost Club. Don also took great pride in his service to his community. He was a 55 year member of the Kiel VFW Post #6707. During his membership he served as commander in 1968 and for 35 years placed flags on veteran’s graves for every Memorial Day. He was involved in the Manitowoc County/ Kiel Cub Scouts for 14 years. Don served as Little League Baseball coach for 16 years and was a Community Chest Board member for 3 years. After his retirement he remained active, working at Sunshine Car Wash for 10 years. He was also very involved with the Kiel Senior Center and served as volunteer driver for 9 years. Don was a great fan of all sports. He especially enjoyed cheering for the Packers and all Wisconsin Teams. In more recent years he took great interest in Fantasy Football and the NCAA tournaments and especially playing poker with his grandchildren. Survivors include his 5 children; Mark Dedering of West Covina, CA, Susan Dedering of Sheboygan and her children; Trisha (Shaun) Rieth and Andrew Johnson, Julie (Jeff) Evenson of Valders and their children; Mark, Katie, Ben and Brad Evenson, Lisa (Steve) Horst of Kiel and their children; Josh Horst, Jacob (Ashley) Horst and Chelsea (Matt) Burris,Christopher (Kay) Dedering of Kiel and their children; Justin and Ashley Dedering. Don is further survived by 6 great grandchildren; Michael, Rachel, Elizabeth and Elliot Rieth, Emma Burris and Ari Horst. His brother; Gilbert (Marion) Dedering, his sister; Shirley (Arden) Mogenson both of Kiel. Brothers-in-law and sisters-in-law; Donald Steiner, David (Gertie) Steiner, Dennis (Shirley) Steiner all of Plymouth along with numerous nieces, nephews other relatives and friends. He was preceded in death by his parents, his wife; Betty, a sister and brother-in-law; Mildred & Charles Balkwell, sisters-in-law; Sandra Bishop & Mary Steiner, brothers-in-law; Daryl & Leonard Steiner, niece; Sherry Kelley and nephew; Steven Steiner. According to Don’s wishes, private family service were held with entombment at Knollwood Chapel Mausoleum. Don’s family would like to thank the doctors, nurses and staff at Sheboygan Memorial Medical Center; especially the ICU for the compassion and care shown to Don and his family. A memorial has been established in his name.
