Actress. A prolific and versatile performer, she shall probably be best remembered as Madeline from the hit CTV series "La Femme Nikita". Born Faith Susan Alberta Watson, she was raised in Toronto by her single mother, developed her acting skills in a church theatre group, and had her first significant roles in the 1978 "In Praise of Older Women", for which she received a Genie Award nomination, and 1979's "Power Play". From then to the end of her life she was kept busy in both Canada and the United States, where she resided for a number of years, with a succession of large and small screen jobs, her cinematic features including 1982's "The Soldier", "The Hitman" (1991), the 1994 "Spanking the Monkey" for which she earned praise as a mother involved in an incestuous relationship with her son, 1996's "Shoemaker" which garnered her a Gemini Award nomination, "Desire" and "Deeply" (both 2000), and 2001's "Hedwig and the Angry Itch". Alberta's television assignments included multiple episodes of "Hill Street Blues", "The Equalizer", "Street Legal", "Law & Order", and other fare of the day; in 1996 she portrayed John Gotti's daughter Victoria in the HBO feature "Gotti", then in 1997 she landed the role of Madeline, second in command of the rogue intelligence group Section One", in "La Femme Nikita" and kept working up to her 2001 'suicide' despite being diagnosed with lymphoma in 1998 and having to wear wigs when chemotherapy took her hair. She was Jack Bauer's boss Erin Driscoll on the 2004-2005 season of "24", won a 2010 Gemini Best Supporting Actress Award for "Heartland", and from 2010 until 2010 was Senator Madeline Pierce in "Nikita", CW's reworking of the original show. Alberta died of cancer in a hospice facility.
