Everdena "Dena" L. Burgess passed away in a Boise hospital on March 27th, 2015 after a battle with cancer. Dena was born in Wendell, Idaho on Easter morning, April 5th, 1942 to Clarence and Etta (Alberts) Haussler. The family, including a sister Evelyn and a brother Marvin, moved to Emmett when she was a young child. She attended country schools including Central Mesa and graduated from Emmett High School in 1960.
An early marriage brought two children into her life: a son John and daughter Colleen.
She later married James (Jim) Burgess in 1972 and gained not only a husband but two step-children Dennis and Callie. The family had many great outdoor adventures following Jim's profession of building dams and bridges. For a few years they spent summers in the mountains of Grandjean, Jackpot NV, and Sumpter Oregon, returning to Emmett each year for school.
Dena began working for H&R Block in Emmett in the late 1970's and was a bookkeeper as well as a tax preparer. She became manager of the Ontario office soon thereafter and remained with the company for 25 years. She left H&R Block in the 1990's to start her own business and continued in that field until retiring 4 years ago.
She dearly loved the outdoors: hunting, fishing, picking mushrooms and huckleberries, camping and gardening. Her flower garden gave her so much pleasure, especially the irises and zinnias. However, Dena's greatest joy was her family; children, grandchildren and great grandchildren. Sunday and holiday dinners with everyone there kept a smile on her face.
Dena is survived by her children John St.Germain, Colleen & Ron Coates, grandchildren Alesha & Nick Wise, Christopher Coates, Brian & Samantha Coates, Great Grand Children Gavin Wise and Kambria Wise, and many nieces, nephews and other family members. She was preceded in death by her husband, Jim; her mother and father; sister, Evelyn and brother, Marvin.
Funeral Services will be held at 11:00 a.m. Tuesday, March 31, 2015 at the Potter Funeral Chapel. Burial is to follow at the Emmett Cemetery.
