Waniger, Thomas H.

Thomas H. Waniger, age 77, of 16628 West Washington Street, Valders, died on Wednesday evening, March 25, 2015 at his residence.

He was born on June 13, 1937 in Manitowoc County, son of the late Arthur and Mary (Siegel) Waniger. Tom was a graduate of Valders High School with the class of 1955. He served in the US Air Force from 1956 until 1960. On July 14, 1962 he married the former Carol Riesterer at St. Gregory Catholic Church, St. Nazianz. Tom was employed at The Soil Service Center in Valders and also managed the Centrol Crop Consulting Agency of Valders. Tom later was employed at the Chilton Co-op until his retirement in 2000. He then drove school bus for 12 years including driving student athletes to high school basketball games, cross country and track meets. Every Friday he went to St. Marys/St. Michaels School and listened to children read. Tom also went on mission trips to Guatemala, Lancaster, PA and the Appalachian Mountains with Fr. Dick. He coached peewee baseball and following his coaching career he continued as an umpire for many years. Tom loved life and people.

Survivors include his wife of 52 years: Carol Waniger, Valders, three children and their spouses: Scott (Jean) Waniger, Andover, MN, Shelly (Paul) Leonhard, Valders, Steve (Lana) Waniger, Manitowoc; eight grandchildren: Jarid and Kelsey, Dylan, Nathan and Haley, Ashley, Heather and Alex; four great-grandchildren: Wyatt, Aubree, Kamron and Karter; one brother: Charlie Waniger, Manitowoc; three sisters and brothers-in-law: Rosie (Jerry) Kiefer, Boulder, CO, Faye (Leo) Riesterer, St. Nazianz, Margaret (Jerry) Post, St. Nazianz; one sister-in-law: Alice Waniger, St. Nazianz, three brothers-in-law and sisters-in-law: Richard (Mary) Riesterer, Chilton, Mary (Mark) Mathias Manitowoc, Meg (Dave) Kubesh, Olivia, MN. Nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends also survive. He was also preceded in death by two infant children; one brother: Francis Waniger; one sister: Rita Ann; father-in-law and mother-in-law: Herman and Gertrude Riesterer; and one sister-in-law: Lois Waniger.

Funeral services will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Tuesday, March 31, 2015 at St. Mary Catholic Church, Clarks Mills. Officiating at the Mass of Christian Burial will be the Rev. Richard Klingeisen and concelebrating will be the Rev. Kenan Siegel and Rev. James Jugenheimer. Cremation will take place at All-Care Cremation Center, Manitowoc following Mass and Tom will be laid to rest in St. Mary Cemetery, Clarks Mills, where graveside military rites will be accorded.

The family will greet relatives and friends on Monday, March 30, 2015 at St. Mary Catholic Church, Clarks Mills from 4:00 p.m. until 7:30 p.m. A prayer service will be held at 7:30 p.m. led by Rev. Richard Klingeisen. The visitation will continue on Tuesday, March 31, 2015 at St. Mary Catholic Church, Clarks Mills, from 9:00 a.m. until 10:45 a.m.

The Pfeffer Funeral Home, Manitowoc, is assisting the family with funeral arrangements.

Thank you to all of our family and friends who have supported us with prayer, love and visits these last couple of weeks. A very special thanks to Denny and Betty Hove. They were our everyday angels. With their help we were able to grant Tom's wish to remain at home. Thanks also to Holy Family Memorial Hospice. A very special thank you to Dr. Michael Rosenberg and his staff at Manitowoc Cardiology for their loving care and compassion.
