The above obituary from the Merrill Daily; Merrill, Wisconsin, dated Tuesday,

February 24, 1959, contains a number of misnomers or oversights, as clarified below:

(*1) The claim the father of Julius was also a Julius, is unfounded/unproven.

(**2) Immigration year 1902, is incorrect. Julius arrived in New York City, 30 Apr 1914.

(***3) The date of his marriage to Anna Schneider as Mar 1922, should read 6 Feb 1923.

Julius Adolph Moor traveled aboard the S.S. President Grant from Boulogne-Sur-Mer, France, arriving on April 30, 1914, in New York City, with his friend Alphonse Reist. He states to the emigration officer upon entering the country that he has $30 with him, and is a cheese maker heading for Monroe, Wisconsin, to meet Jacob Diehl. Other information on the "arrival passenger listing" says he is 5 foot 3 1/2 inches tall with brown hair and brown eyes. As a side note, Jacob and Alphonse are living just a few households away from Julius A. Moor in the Merrill, Wisconsin, 1920 census.

Julius Adolph Moor's biological father is unknown (see below), and his mother was Albertina Moor. She is documented marrying Gottfried Gfeller, on 30 Dec 1897, in Paris, France, just before Julius turned 17 years old. The 1920 census for Julius says his mother spoke "French". "Albertina" is also listed as Adolph's mother on his WWI draft registration, stating she was living in Zurich, Switzerland. LDS file id: M214-SH9, for: "Albertina Moor" shows a birth date of 27 Jan 1863, in Obersteinmaur, Steinmaur, Zurich, Switzerland; and a baptism date of 15 Feb 1863 in Sünikon, Steinmaur, Zürich, Switzerland; with the parents of Albertina Moor listed as: "HS Johann Jakob Moor and Anna Gutmann". Another LDS file lists the death date for Albertina as 10 Jun 1936, in (__?__).

Possible father of Julius Adolph Moor . . .

Information that follows is from Suzanne Wilson, descendant of Julius Adolph Moor's daughter, Louise (Moor) Orin; [email protected]

Family legend [unproven tradition] has it that Albertina Moor worked in a Rothschild house as a servant. She had a son born out of wedlock--there's a suspicion that a Rothschild could have been the father (droit du seigneur, you know). And one of the "reigning" Rothschilds at that time was Adolphe Carl von Rothschild in Geneva. It was also customary in the Rothschild family to use the father's first name as the son's middle name. Who knows?? Her second son, also illegitimate, was named Karl Herman--quite a coincidence. She [Albertina Moor) had a daughter Marie Rosa, legitimized by her marriage to Gottfried Gfeller of Vechigen, Canton Berne. She (they?) moved to Paris in Dec 1897.

Additional note: per Rothschild Archive, Adolphe did not produce any children with his wife, Julie von Rothschild, whom he had married on 16 Oct 1850. Adolphe commissioned Joseph Paxton to build a château at Pregny on the shores of Lake Geneva, where they housed some of their fine collections of paintings and objects. In Paris, they lived on the rue de Monceau. An ophthalmological foundation established by Adolphe in Paris and named after him became the interest of his widow after his death from influenza on the rue de Monceau on 7 Feb 1900.

In 1861 Garibaldi's Red Shirts stormed southern Italy. What had been the Kingdom of the Two Sicilies became part of unified Italy. The Rothschild bank at Naples closed its portals because there was no longer a Neapolitan monarch to loan to. Adolphe, son of the founder Carl, did not care to do business with lesser principals and followed the royal family into France. In Paris the king became an ex-king, but Rothschild was not an ex-Rothschild. His exile proved no less noble than his former native household. The Empress of Austria (who became so intimate with his wife Julie) was only one of many illustrious guests in his several residences. But Adolph had no children with his wife Julie. His brother Wilhelm had three; brother Mayer, seven, but all ten were---supreme frustration---girls. In this unrelieved femininity lay the demise of the Italian branch and, as a matter of fact, of the German as well.

Julius Adolf Moor married ANNA MARTHA SCHNEIDER on

6 February, 1923, in Merrill, Lincoln County, Wisconsin. Anna was born 27 Oct 1894, in Selma, Texas, and died 20 Nov 1935 in Merrill, Wisconsin.

Anna's father was ARTHUR HUGO SCHNEIDER:

born 5 July 1868 in Hamburg, Germany

died 13 July 1940 in San Antonio, Texas

Anna's mother was MARTHA ANNA GRAFE:

born 27 Jan 1872 in Dresden, Germany

died 8 Dec 1928 in Jackson County, Texas.

Anna was first married to Henry Willman on November 27, 1916 in Texas and they divorced on October 11, 1922 in Texas. Henry was born in 12 Nov 1894 and died 5 Aug 1946 and was buried at the North Texas State Hospital Cemetery, Wichita Falls.

The home & 80 acre farm of the Moor family from at least 1930 to 1944 was located in Township 32 North, Range 7 East, Section 31, Lincoln Co., Wisconsin. Current day location is on the SW bend of Maplewood Road, between U.S. Rt. 51 and County Rt. K.
