Myrtle H. Brunner, age 91, of 808 Schroeder Drive, Manitowoc, died on Friday, March 4, 2011, at St. Mary's Home, Manitowoc.

Myrtle was born on July 16, 1919, in Milwaukee, daughter of the late Faye and Ella (Knowsley) Lake. She married Clarence L. Brunner on Dec. 1, 1937, in Minocqua. He preceded her in death on July 14, 1999. Myrtle enjoyed knitting, playing cards, her dogs, the Milwaukee Brewers, and Yahtzee. She worked at the Cawley Co. until she retired at the age of 90. In her younger years, she raised her five children and many foster children. Myrtle was an avid member of the V.F.W. Auxiliary No. 659. She joined on Aug. 27, 1945, and was a member for 65 years. She became a life member in 2001 and also served as state president of the organization from 1973 until 1974 and held many local, state and national offices throughout the years.

Survivors include her children: Clarence F. (Marion) Brunner, Manitowoc, Bob (Bobbie) Brunner, Arlington, Pat (Dale) Wech, Manitowoc, Sharalyn (Dennis) Lochmann, Valders, Laurie Hoppe, Manitowoc; 18 grandchildren; 40 great-grandchildren; and seven great-great-grandchildren. Nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends also survive. She was preceded in death by one great-great-granddaughter: Tierra Gauger; a grandson-in-law: Doug Murphy; two sisters and two twin infant sisters: Dorothy Burns-Schubert, Ethel Holmes, Hope and Faith Lake; and three brothers: George, Earl and Ted Lake.

Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. on Thursday, March 10, 2011, at Knollwood Chapel Mausoleum. Officiating at the service will be Deacon Alan Boeldt with entombment to follow at Knollwood Mausoleum.

The family will greet relatives and friends on Wednesday, March 9, 2011, from 5 until 8 p.m. at the Pfeffer Funeral Home, Manitowoc. At 8 p.m., there will be a prayer service led by Deacon Alan Boeldt. The visitation will continue on Thursday, March 10, 2011, from 9:30 until 10:45 a.m. at Knollwood Chapel Mausoleum.

The Pfeffer Funeral Home, Manitowoc, is assisting the family with funeral arrangements.

The family wishes to extend a special thank you to the staffs of Holy Family Memorial Cancer Care Center, fifth floor and CCU at Holy Family Memorial Medical Center, and St. Mary's Home for the care and compassion shown to Myrtle and her family throughout her illness.
