Former Auxiliary Bishop of Brooklyn and Bishop of the Titular See of Nepte, Monsignor Edmund Joseph Reilly was born in the College Point section of Queens, New York, and studied at Cathedral College and St. John's Seminary in Brooklyn. Ordained priest on April 1, 1922, his first assignment was as a curate at St. James Cathedral, where he remained until 1943.

Pastor of St. Thomas Aquinas church in Flatbush as of 1943, three years later he was transferred to Our Lady of Angels church in Bay Ridge. He also served as diocesan master of ceremonies.

Appointed auxiliary bishop of Brooklyn, Reilly received his episcopal consecration with the Titular See of Nepte on June 7, 1955 from Archbishop Thomas Edmund Molloy asissted by Bishops Raymond Augustine Kearney and John Joseph Boardman.

Continuing to serve as pastor of Our Lady of Angels, he died from a heart attack at the rectory of the said parish at age 61.
