Mrs. Anna Backhaus, 83, of 908 S. 23rd St., Manitowoc, died early Wednesday morning at Holy Family Hospital,Manitowoc, where she had been confined the past month.
Funeral services will be at 8:30 a.m. Friday at Pfeffer Funeral Home, Manitowoc, and at 9 a.m., at St. Mary Catholic Church, Manitowoc, with the Rev. Edward Nowakowski officiating. Burial will be in Calvary Cemetery.

Mrs. Backhaus was born Feb. 17, 1876, at Francis Creek, daughter of the late Mr. and Mrs. Joseph Lax. She was married to Joseph Backhaus April 8, 1903, at Silver Lake, and the couple moved to Manitowoc.
Mrs. Backhaus was employed at Holy Family Hospital as a seamstress until 1956. She was preceded in death by her husband in 1939.
Survivors include a sister, Mrs. Mary Steder of Manitowoc and numerous nephews and nieces.
Friends may call at the funeral home after 3 p.m. Thursday where the Rosary will be recited at 8:30 p.m.
