Ben Bartelme (photo), veteran Manitowoc businessman, died unexpectedly Monday evening at his home, 1706 Waldo Blvd. He was 59. Funeral services will be at 9 a.m. Thursday at Mittnacht Funeral Home,
Manitowoc, and at 9:30 a.m. at Holy Innocents Catholic Church. The Rev. E.A. Radey will be celebrant at the solemn high Mass and burial will be in Calvary Cemetery.
Mr. Bartelme was born at Cooperstown, son of the late John and Nora Scanlon Bartelme. He attended St. James School at Cooperstown and married Margaret O'Connor at Sacred Heart Catholic Church, Manitowoc, Oct. 21, 1930.
As a young man Mr. Bartelme was pianist for 10 years with the former Lyric Orchestra. In 1931, he entered into partnership with a brother, Eugene, to conduct and operate a grocery and meat market, Bartelme's Food Market, 731 N. 11th St. Mr. Bartelme was a member of Holy Name Society and the dartball team
of Holy Innocents Church, Fraternal Order of Eagles, Catholic Knights of Wisconsin, Manitowoc County Food Dealers Assn., Wisconsin Retail Food Dealers Assn. and the National Association of Retail Grocers. For a number of years Mr. Bartelme was active in Manitowoc County bowling circles.
Surviving are his wife, three daughters, a son, two brothers, Leo of Los Angeles and Eugene of Manitowoc; four sisters, Mrs. Ambrose O'Hearn of Manitowoc, Mrs.Louis Kriwanik and Mrs. John Wellner of Denmark and Mrs. Gordon Francke of Milwaukee; and five grandchildren. Three brothers and a sister preceded him in

Friends may call at the funeral home after 2 p.m. Wednesday where the Rosary will be recited at 7:30 p.m. by the Holy Name Society and the Catholic Knights of Wisconsin.
