Hans B. Bauer, 70, brew-master and chemist at the Rahr Malting company for 42 years, died early last evening at his home, 1110 South Sixth street.
Mr. Bauer has been in failing health for six months. A few weeks ago he was taken seriously ill.
Identified with the brewing and malting business in this city for over two score years, Mr. Bauer continued active until sickness forced him to remain at home. He was engaged as a brew-master by the Rahrs while he was employed in his native Germany. He came to the city during the period when the Rahr firm was engaged in both the brewery and malting business.

Funeral Friday
Funeral services will be held Friday at 9 a.m. from the home and at 9:30 o’clock from the St. Boniface church. There will be a solemn requiem mass. Burial will be in Evergreen cemetery.

Mr. Bauer was born in Munich, Germany, in 1867. He learned the brewing trade. When 28 years of age he came to Manitowoc to become brew-master for the Rahr company. When that company discontinued the brewery and continued as the Rahr Malting company Mr. Bauer became a chemist with the firm.

In 1897 he married Miss Clara Stockinger of this city.
Soon after coming to Manitowoc Mr. Bauer became a member of the Freier Saengerbund, one of the oldest singing societies in the state. For a 40 year period he has continued active with that group. In June, 1935,
members of the society surprised him at his home on the occasion of the 40th anniversary of his membership.

Widow Survives
Mr. Bauer was also a member of the Eagles, the Holy Name society, and the National Brew-masters’ association.
Survivors are his widow; a daughter, Mrs. Carl Tauschek, city; two sons, Max R., and Hans G., both of this city; a sister, Miss Mina Bauer, Munich, Germany; and five grandchildren.
