Haupt, Mary S.

Mary S. Haupt, age 64, a Manitowoc resident, died Sunday, December 7, 2014 at her residence.

Mary was born August 17, 1950 daughter of the late Robert & Salome (Evenson) Haupt. She graduated from Valders High School with the class of 1968. Mary also graduated from the UW-Stevens Point. She was employed with the Mirro Company for many years until the company closed. Mary then was employed with H&R Block and Lakeshore Farm Management as a tax return preparer.

Mary was a well-liked person who developed genuine and caring relationships with family, friends and coworkers. She had a great love for her family and truly enjoyed times shared with nieces and nephews. Mary had a great sense of humor, was fun loving, and enjoyed spending time with people. She was always positive, upbeat and friendly in spite of multiple chronic health issues. Her coworkers described Mary as a peach of a person, full of care and compassion. She greatly enjoyed the relationships formed with clients as a registered tax return preparer.

Special times for Mary included vacationing in Florida, a bucket-list trip to Norway with her mother, many family vacations at a cottage in Athelstane, a trip out west with her sister Carol, and visits with college buddies.

For years, Mary raised and energetically attended to her Columbia sheep, showing them at the state fair. She enjoyed sports; playing baseball and football with her siblings in her youth and was an excellent softball player in her college days and beyond, with a powerful and accurate throw. Mary enjoyed spending time reading, playing cards, and computer solitaire. Most of all she enjoyed being with and having conversations with people.

Mary was a life-long member of Faith Lutheran Church, an active member of the Women's Organization serving as President and a synodical delegate, a Sunday school teacher, a Stephen's Minister, and an advocate for local and global outreach ministries. Mary was proud to be a Big Sister in the Big Brothers/Big Sisters program for a number of years.

If you knew Mary, you know she had a beautiful soul and a warm and caring heart. She was dearly loved and will be deeply missed.
