RAYMOND ARKENS
(1898 - 1971)

Raymond (Ray) Arkens, 73, of Rockwood, Rt. 4, Manitowoc, died Thursday afternoon at Holy Family Hospital, Manitowoc.

Funeral services will be at 10 a.m. Monday at Saur Funeral Home, Kellnersville, and at 10:30 a.m. at St. Anne Catholic Church, Francis Creek. The Rev. John Haen will officiate and burial will be in the church cemetery.

Mr. Arkens was born Aug. 17, 1898, at Lena, Wis., son of the late Theodore and Sarah Pirlet Arkens. He married Claire Daoust Dec. 9, 1919, at Seymour. The couple resided at Green Bay until 1933 when they moved to Klondike where they operated a tavern until 1950. Later they operated Arkens Green Lake Resort at Mountain, Wis., until 1968 when they retired and moved to Rockwood. Mr. Arkens was a carpenter by trade. He served in the Navy in World War I and was a member of the V.F.W. Post at Mountain. He was also a member of the Mountain, Klondike and Francis Creek sportsmans' clubs.

Survivors include his wife, a son, M.J. (Bud) Arkens of Francis Creek, two daughters, Mrs. Marty (June) Katzka and Mrs. Kenneth (Janet) Weger of Francis Creek, two sisters, Mrs. Con (Katherine) Gauthier of Oconto Falls and Mrs. Daniel (Helen) Mathys of Rt. 1, Green Bay, 11 grandchildren and 12 great grand-children. Four brothers, two sisters and a grandchild preceded him in death.
