Age 96, of Canby, Minnesota.

Gordon was born to Charles and Agnes (Albrecht) Zanke in Glencoe, Minnesota, on July 1, 1916. He attended school and grew up in Marietta, Minnesota. He was baptized at Saint John Lutheran Church in Marietta where he remained on the roles as a lifetime member. He married Margaret Yackley in Canby, Minnesota, and from that union they were blessed with four daughters. Gordon lived the majority of his lifetime in Canby, Minnesota.

Gordon served honorably in the US Army during WW II as a rifleman, mechanic, and military policeman and he served in Japan. Gordon was a member of the American Legion and the VFW. Upon returning from his military service, he started a trucking business in Canby, Minnesota. Oh, the hundreds of thousands of miles he traveled! Each of Gordon’s girls has fond memories of summers traveling with their Dad in the Big Rig. Especially memorable were the Christmas trees runs to Montana, singing of songs/hymns while traveling and the games Gordon made up to entertain the girls. Gordon was also known for being a gifted mechanic. He had a love of trucks, cars, and motorcycles. Some of his other interests included fishing, pheasant hunting, being outdoors, traveling, bowling, reading, and singing. His greatest enjoyment was time with his family and friends. His faith remained to be a stronghold throughout his life’s journey.

Gordon is survived by his 4 daughters, DeAnne Drietz, Patricia (Ruffin) Veal, Judith (Jeffrey) Ochsendorf, and Mary (Ben) LaLonde; 8 grandchildren, John and Jeff Drietz, Jayne Sik, Joseph Bednar, Todd Jants, Ericka Babione, Daniel Klonowski, and Tony Quigley; 14 great-grandchildren; 7 great-great grandchildren; brother, Harlow; sister, Luella; and numerous nieces, nephews, and friends.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Charles and Agnes (Albrecht) Zanke; brother, Calvin Zanke; sister, Bernice Zanke; great-grandson, Darrel Jants.
