Professional Football Player. For three seasons (1951 to 1953), he played at the halfback position in the National Football League with the Washington Redskins and Green Bay Packers. Born John Michael Papit, he attended Northeast High School in Philadelphia and captained their team to the 1946 City Title played at Franklin Field. He attended the University of Virginia on an football scholarship and was the school's all-time leader in rushing yardage at the time of his graduation. His record stood for forty-two years. Selected by the Washington Redskins during the 1951 NFL Draft, he totaled 29 career regular season games. He produced a career-high 175 rushing yards with the Redskins in 1951. After retiring from football, he worked in the banking industry. He was honored by the University of Virginia, when his uniform number 87 was retired from the school. He died of complications from a stroke.
