A versatile character actor who appeared on dozens of motion pictures and television shows, he had a career that spanned five decades, will most likely be remembered for the roles he played alongside Clint Eastwood. Born in San Diego, California and raised in Rhode Island, he studied dramatic arts in high school before joining the Plymouth Theater in Massachusetts, where he appeared in summer stock and in several off-Broadway productions in New York City, New York. He landed his first minor movie role in 'The Culpepper Cattle Co.' (1972) before beginning a long association with Eastwood, starting off with 'High Plains Drifter' (1973), and later appeared with him in 'Thunderbolt and Lightfoot' (1974), 'Every Which Way But Loose' (1978), 'Any Which Way You Can' (1980), 'Bronco Billy' (1980), 'Pink Cadillac' (1989) and 'Midnight in the Garden of Good and Evil' (1997). Other notable screen credits include 'Dillinger' (1973), 'The Great Waldo Pepper' (1975), 'They Died with Their Boots On' (1978), 'Heaven's Gate' (1980), '10 to Midnight' (1983), 'Lust in the Dust' (1985), 'Catch Me if You Can' (1989), 'The Man Without a Face' (1993), 'Five Aces' (1999), 'Mind Games' (2003), 'The Devil's Rejects' (2009) and 'Mommy's Little Monster' (2012). He had recurring roles on several television shows, including 'Bonanza', 'Longstreet', 'Mannix', 'The Waltons', 'Barnaby Jones', 'Gun Shy', 'Mama's Family', 'Falcon Crest' and 'Murder, She Wrote'. He received a Golden Globe nomination for his role on the comedy series, 'Flo'. Lewis, who was the father of 10 children, including actors Dierdre Lewis, Lightfield Lewis and Juliette Lewis, died of natural causes.
