Salvatore Thomas Inserra, a 10-year resident of Brewster, N.Y., died Wednesday, April 8, 2015, at his home. He was 87 years old. Mr. Inserra was born May 19, 1927, in Roscoe, son to the late Salvatore T. and Lucretia (Poletz) Inserra. Sal proudly served in the U.S. Navy during World War II. Sal married Josephine V. DiGioacchino on Jan. 12, 1952. She predeceased him on June 6, 2007. Mr. Inserra was a supervisor for United Airlines in Newark, N.J., for over 20 years before retiring. Sal always had a smile on his face. Anyone who met him enjoyed his company and enjoyed being around him. He enjoyed life! Mr. Inserra was a member of the Knights of Columbus and the VFW. He loved being a veteran of the armed forces and talking about his time he served. Mr. Inserra is survived by three sons, Michael Inserra of Colliersville, N.Y., Salvatore T. Inserra and wife, Darlene, of Fife, Wash., and Joseph Inserra and wife, Marisa of Howell, N.J.; a daughter, Mary Cay Nilsen and husband, Glenn, of Brewster, N.Y.; eight grandchildren, Lindsey, Jason (Katie), Salvatore T., Jennifer, Rebecca, Joseph, Daniel and Timothy. Friends will be received from 7 to 9 p.m. on Saturday, April 11, 2015, and from 2 to 4 p.m. and 6 to 8 p.m. Sunday, April 12, 2015, at the BEECHER FUNERAL HOME, 1 Putnam Ave., Brewster, N.Y. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 10 a.m. Monday, April 13, 2015, at Sacred Heart Church, Patterson, N.Y. Interment following at St. Lawrence O’Toole Cemetery, Brewster. Donations may be made in Mr. Inserra's memory to Hospice Care in Westchester and Putnam, 540 White Plains Road, Suite 300, Tarrytown, NY 10591, www.vnahv.org.
