Adèle de France (1160-1221)
Adèle de France (Adélaïde or Alix) (October 1160 - after January 1213) is the daughter of King Louis VII of France ( 1120 - 1180 ) and his second wife Constance who dies the day after the birth of her daughter.
In 1169 , she is engaged to Richard the Lion Heart , the son of Henry II. This brought her to England to take possession of the land constituting her dowry ( County of Aumale and County of Eu ), but as soon as she was nubile, he abused her, would have made her mistress and delayed marriage.
By the peace treaty signed on September 30, 1174 in Montlouis between Tours and Amboise, King Henry II renewed to Louis VII, the promise of marriage between Alix and his son Richard, but he did not keep it, and in 1177 Pope Alexander III intervened to summon him, under pain of excommunication, to make the agreed marriage. Berry was to be her dowry. He renewed his promise in December 1183 and the 1186 Lent , but still not as promised. Meanwhile Alix would have given birth to a son.
After the death of King Henry II , on 6 July 1189 , his son and successor, Richard the Lion Heart , sent Alix in Rouen in February 1190 , but in 1191 , he warned the King of France Philip Augustus it not take her sister as a woman because of the dishonor which he accused.
After trying to give in marriage to King John , brother of Richard the Lion Heart , King Philip Augustus married her on 20 August 1195 to William II Talvas (circa 1178 - 1221 ), Count of Ponthieu . She brought in her dowry the county of Eu , the county of Arques and a loan of 5,000 marks.
She was with him:
Marie de Ponthieu (before 1199 - 1250 ), who married Simon, Count of Ponthieu (1239 ), Count of Aumale and Dammartin and inherited the county of Ponthieu . Second marriage, married Marie de Ponthieu Mathieu de Montmorency (1250).
Probably (uncertain parentage): John II of Ponthieu (1199 - 1214).
