Musician, Songwriter. He will be best remembered for co-penning the single "Sugar Shack" (1962), which reached number one on the Billboard Charts for "Jimmy Gilmer and the Fireballs" in 1963. Raised in Plainview, Texas, he was influenced at an early age by the sound of the electric guitar, as well as performers Elvis Presley and Johnny Cash. McCormack (playing rhythm guitar) co-formed the instrumental music ensemble "String-A-Longs" while in high school and in 1961, they scored a number three hit with "Wheels." Along with his aunt Faye, he co-wrote the song "Sugar Shack" (1962), which achieved gold record status and was a number one hit for five weeks for "Jimmy Gilmer and the Fireballs" in 1963. McCcormack remained active in the music industry. He died following a stroke.
