Harold w. (Harry) Kaufmann, age 78, of 1308 Cherry Road, Manitowoc, died Friday morning, August 14, 1998, following a courageous battle with cancer.
Funeral Services will be held at 11 a.m. Monday, August 17, 1998, at Holy Innocents Catholic Church. Rev. Gerald Foley will officiate at the Mass of Christian Burial with burial to follow at Calvary Cemetery, Manitowoc.
He was born October 26, 1919, in Manitowoc, son of the late William and Agnes Waniger Kaufmann. He was a graduate of St. Boniface Grade School and a graduate of Manitowoc Lincoln High School with the class of 1937. Harry was a veteran of the United States Marine Corps., serving from 1944-1946, in Okinawa-Pacific Theatre. He married the former Dorothy C. Krcma. The couple celebrated their 50th wedding anniversary on November 18, 1994. He began his career at Manitowoc Shipbuilding and then became vice president of Southside Ace Hardware, Manitowoc, for many years. He also worked at Meadow Lanes North until his retirement. Harry was truly dedicated to the sport of bowling. He was a past president and life member of the Manitowoc and Wisconsin Bowling Associations as well as a charter member and inductee of both the Manitowoc Bowling Association and the Lakeshore All-Sports Hall of Fame. He was an honorary life member of the Knights of Columbus. He was a member, lector and server at Holy Innocents Catholic Church as well as a volunteer at the Manitowoc County Health Care Center.
Survivors include his wife, Dorothy Kaufmann, Manitowoc; two sons and one daughter-in-law, Jim Kaufmann, Manitowoc, John and Debbie Kaufmann, Whitelaw; three daughters and two sons-in-law, Chris and David Gospodarek, Kathy and Terry Thorne, all of Appleton, Ann Hornes, Manitowoc; 12 grandchildren, Jeffrey, Michael, Casey, Trisha, Jodi, Brianna, Tyler, Angela, Michelle, Chad, Melissa, and Casey; one great-grandchild, Travis; three brothers and two sisters-in-law, Milton and Edna Kaufmann, Newton, Glenn Kaufmann, Manitowoc, Joe and Ruth Kaufmann, Clover; two sisters and one brother-in-law, Agnes and Adolph Drobka, Milwaukee; Mildred Fischl, Manitowoc; nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends also survive. He was preceded in death by one son-in-law, Dean Hornes; one sister-in-law, Emily Kaufmann; two brothers-in-law, Dick Krcma and Paul Fischl.
Friends may call at the Pfeffer Funeral Home, Manitowoc, from 5-8 p.m. Sunday and on Monday morning at Holy Innocents Catholic Church from 10 a.m. until the time of service at 11 a.m. A prayer service will be held Sunday evening at 7 p.m. led by Deacon Rahlf Proulx.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Holy Family Memorial Hospice.
