Earl J. McCarthy, age 97, a resident at St. Mary’s Home at Felician Village, Manitowoc, entered eternal life Tuesday evening, April 14, 2015 at St. Mary’s Home.

Earl was born on March 10, 1918 in Reedsville, Wisconsin. He was the son of the late John E. and Margaret Nate McCarthy. Earl was a graduate of Valders High School with the class of 1936. In 1941 he enlisted with the United State Army serving overseas during WWII until 1946 when he was honorably discharged. Earl was in sales for 40 years with Mike Wallender Inc. of Valders from where he retired in 1982. On August 25, 1959 he married Shirley J. Barnes at St. Andrew’s Catholic Church in Manitowoc. She preceded him in death on September 8, 2011. Earl was a member of St. Francis of Assisi Catholic Parish, past 50 year member of the Knights of Columbus Council #710 and past member of the Veterans of Foreign Wars Kubale-O’Connell Post #6179 in Kellnersville.

He is survived by two sisters: Margie Engelbrecht, Manitowoc; Charlotte Mae (Bill) Redding, Florida; two special nieces: Barbara (Rick) Krueger, Reedsville; Mary Brazzale, Manitowoc; one special nephew: Michael (Lisa) Schueler, St. Nazianz; nieces, nephews along with other relatives and friends. He was preceded in death by his parents: John and Margaret McCarthy; his wife: Shirley; four sisters and one brother.

Funeral services will be held 11:00 a.m. Monday, April 20, 2015 at St. Francis of Assisi Catholic Church on Waldo, 1121 North 14th Street, Manitowoc. The Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated by Rev. William Brunner with burial to follow at St. Mary’s Catholic Cemetery in Clarks Mills. Relatives and friends may call at St. Francis of Assisi Catholic Church on Waldo on Monday from 10:00 a.m. until the time of services at 11:00 a.m.
