Milton Barker served in Company E. 75th Illinois Infantry and in Company D. 15th Illinois Infantry in the Civil War.

Milton was a resident of Lee Center, Lee Co., IL. when he enlisted on Aug 14, 1862 and was mustered in on Sept 2, 1862 into Co. E. 75th IL Infantry at Dixon, IL for 3 years service. He was described as a single 17 year old farmer, born in Lee Co. IL. who was 5' 4" tall with light hair, blue eyes, and light complexion. He was discharged for disability on Dec 9, 1862.

On March 3, 1865 he enlisted in Company D. 15th IL Infantry for 1 year. His description was the same except he stated he was 18, he was 5' 5" tall with brown hair, gray eyes, and fair complexion. He was still residing in Lee Center but was a clerk by occupation. He was discharged on Sept 16, 1865 at Ft. Leavenworth, KS following the end of the war.

On Feb 15, 1876 Milton married in Cook Co., IL. Della M. Dimock. In the 1880 census of Illinois, Milton is listed as 34 years old born in 1846 in IL. residing with his wife Della age 29 born in PA with their children Mamie 2 and Charles an infant both born in IL.

On Sept 12, 1892 Milton received an Army Invalid Pension for his service in the Civil War.

At the time of his death Milton, being a veteran of the Union Army in the Civil War, was a proud member of Post #28 Grand Army of the Republic in Chicago.

When Milton died on July 27, 1914 in Chicago, his death certificate stated he was 68 years old, born April 17, 1846 in IL. He was widowed and a retired real estate broker residing at 1405 Forest Ave., Chicago. He was the son of Oliver C. and Caroline L. Barker both natives of Maine. He was buried at Rose Hill Cemetery on July 29, 1914.
