Craddock, William "Popeye" EL CAJON -- Craddock, a long time resident of El Cajon, died at age 91 on March 28th. A remarkable man who served his country in three wars, Popeye was a 17-year-old diver who was present at the bombing of Pearl Harbor. An active member of the San Diego Pearl Harbor Survivors' Assoc., he made presentations, marched proudly in parades, and served as President of PHSA. Born in Tenn. on March 20, 1924, Bill moved to La Mesa with his family in 1935 and attended Grossmont H.S. and SDSU. In addition to his military service, Bill worked as a truck driver, merchant marine, and commercial fisherman. Bill's incredible life experience and his great spirit will be mourned by his four children and their spouses: Becky (Bill) Kennedy, Lloyd (Jennifer) Scott, Ed (Amy) Craddock, and Ellis (Kathy) Craddock; as well as his nine grandchildren (Lacey, Shane, Kaitlyn, Lindsey, Chelsey, Brittney, Zane, Lachlan, Jennika); seven great-grandchildren and a large extended family. Bill was preceded in death by Jean, his wife of 45 years, and by his three siblings (Gladys, Margaret and Ellis). Services will be held at 1:30 p.m. on April 24th at Ft. Rosecrans National Cemetery.
