Beloved Woman Passed Away At Concord Sunday
Mrs. Mary Y. Mallory who would have been 84 years of age Christmas day, died at the home of her son, Dr. R.A. Mallory, in Concord Sunday night after an illness of some three or four weeks. While the end was not unexpected it was none the less a great shock to the people of the community where Mrs. Mallory had lived so long and was so greatly loved by all because of her sweet disposition, words of cheer, Christian character, and ministrations to those in need, especially the poor. Mrs. Mallory belonged to an old Virginia family and was a true type of the best in Southern womanhood of the old days - possessing a brilliant mind, gentle spirit, and all the attributes of true Christian character. Funeral services were conducted Monday afternoon at the Methodist church of which she was a member by her pastor, Rev. R.E. Rutland, assisted by her former pastor, Rev. R.W. Rogers, and by Rev. C.B. Jones, pastor of the Baptist church. Mrs. Mallory was a sister of the late Governor W.W. [Y.] Atkinson of Georgia and of Judge T.A. Atkinson of LaGrange. She is survived by three sons: Dr. R.A. Mallory of Concord, Walter Mallory of Athens, and Clarence Mallory of Greenville, one sister Mrs. D.P. Ellis of Oakland, two brothers, T.E. Atkinson of Newnan and R.J. Atkinson of Greenville. Another good woman has gone but the noble life she lived leaves its influence to bless us and to inspire all who knew her to nobler thoughts and higher living. Interment was in beautiful Magnolia cemetery, Mr. Brandenburg of the R.F. Strickland Co., being the undertaker in charge.
