Raymond Francis Hronek, Jr., age 81, of Manitowoc, WI, passed away peacefully early Tuesday, June 4, 2013, at Theda Clark Medical Center, Neenah, from complications of a stroke.

Ray was born on April 8, 1932, in the town of Gibson, Manitowoc County, son of the late Raymond and Josephine (Shefchek) Hronek. After graduating from Denmark High School in 1950, he served in the U.S. Army during the Korean Conflict from November 14, 1952, until October 22, 1954. Upon his return he married Gwyneth Frelich, his high school sweetheart, on November 20, 1954, at St. Joseph Catholic Church in Kellnersville. The couple moved to Manitowoc in 1962. He worked for Schneider Transport while also joining the Manitowoc County Sheriff's Department in June 1962 and retired as a Lieutenant in January 1989. He loved to travel, golf, go fishing, watch the Green Bay Packers, play cards and tell stories. You could always find him fixing (or recycling) something in the garage or workshop. He was a long-time member of St. Francis of Assisi Parish (formerly Holy Innocents Catholic Church).

Survivors include his wife of 58 years Gwen Hronek, Manitowoc; one son, Randy Hronek, Manitowoc; two daughters and sons-in-law, Joy and Tony Chasensky, St. Paul, MN; Jill Hronek and Stephen Grant, Chicago, IL; three grandchildren, Alayna Hronek, Brian and Hallie Chasensky; two sisters-in-law, Charlotte and Patricia Hronek, Green Bay; as well as many wonderful nieces, nephews, relatives and friends.

Ray is preceded in death by his parents, Raymond and Josephine Hronek Sr.; his father-in-law and mother-in-law, Adolph and Marion Frelich; three brothers and one sister-in-law, Eugene Hronek (2004); Kenneth (Betty) Hronek (1978); and Richard Hronek (2011).

A celebration of Ray's life will be held at 11:00 a.m. Monday, June 10, 2013, at St. Francis of Assisi Church, Waldo site (1121 N. 14th Street) in Manitowoc. The Rev. Ralph Merkatoris will celebrate the Mass of Christian Burial with a private entombment at the Knollwood Mausoleum, 1500 Hwy 310, Manitowoc. Relatives and friends may call at the church on Monday from 9:00 a.m. until the time of services at 11:00 a.m.
