Presidential Cabinet Secretary. He served under Presidents Franklin D. Roosevelt and Harry S Truman as the United States Attorney General. The primary American judge during the International Military Tribunal at Nuremberg after World War II, he was author of a two volume memoir entitled "A Casual Past", (1961) and "In Brief Authority", (1962) recounting the experience. He earned his law degree from Harvard University. As Attorney General he was best remembered for Order 9066 which authorized the United States government to force Japanese-Americans into internment camps during World War II. He was also author of the books "The Llanfear Pattern", (1927) about his experiences growing up in Philadelphia's Main Line and "Mr. Justice Holmes", about his time spent as private secretary for Supreme Court Justice Oliver Wendell Holmes.
