A native of Bohemia, Father Frank Marcellus Cikan moved to America as a small boy, receiving his elementary education at a grade school in Cleveland. After graduating, he registered at St. Ignatius High School in Cleveland but later transferred to St. Procopius Academy, receiving his diploma in 1924. Continuing his higher education at St. Procopius College, he then entered St. John's novitiate in Collegeville, Minnesota, as a Benedictine monk. Professing on July 22, 1927, he was awarded a B.A. degree in 1929 and was ordained priest on May 28, 1933 by Bishop Bernard J. Shiel at Quigley Chapel, Chicago.

Pastor of St. Catherine Church, Freeport, Illinois, Father Cikan passed away suddenly Sunday at his rectory in June 1959. Office of the Dead, solemn pontifical and requiem masses were held at St. Catherine Church, Freeport. Friends called at the B. J. Rumplik & Son Funeral Home, 5337 Dolloft Rd., while services were held on Saturday, July 4, at Our Lady of Lourdes Church, followed by interment at Calvary Cemetery.
