Mildred Hoffman Sterner, 88, formerly of Bloomsbury and Phillipsburg, died Saturday, July 3, 2004 in the Inpatient Hospice Unit at Lehigh Valley Hospital, Allentown.

Born March 23, 1916 in Warren Glen, she was a daughter of the late John W. and Helen (Stocker) Vanderbilt. Her first husband, William Altonen and her second husband O. Leland Hoffman, both died earlier. She was a production worker for Plessey Co., Frenchtown, N.J., before retiring in 1981. She was a 1966 graduate of Empire School of Cosmetology, Easton. She was a member of the Valleyview Baptist Church, Northampton.

Survivors: Brother, Robert Vanderbilt in Florida; nieces, nephews. A son, Dallas Altonen; a brother, John, and a sister, Mabel, all died earlier.

__________

Mildred was the granddaughter of
Catharine J. "Katie" Margeson Vanderbilt (1876-1941)
who was the sister of my gr-grandmother
Laura A. "Gussie" Margeson Lear (1878-1948)
which would have made her my 4th cousin.

Though I did not know Mildred personally, I respectfully honor her memory with this memorial since she was a relative of mine.
