He was born March 30, 1935, in Sturgeon Bay to Edwin and Mildred (Ramaker) Blish. Following his graduation from Sturgeon Bay High School, Gary served his country in the United Stated Army. While stationed in Germany, he met his wife-to-be, Gisela Hollinger, and they were married on February 5, 1957. Their daughter, Rosemarie, was born there before their family returned to Sturgeon Bay where their son, Robert, was born.
Gary worked for the City of Sturgeon Bay and became the Public Works Supervisor, a position he held until his retirement. He was a member of Bay View Lutheran Church in Sturgeon Bay where he was very active with the shut-in ministry. Gary was a proud and devoted member of the Sturgeon Bay Lions Club for over 31 years, having served as President, Region Chair, and Zone Chair, amongst other chair positions. Over the years, he sponsored 15 new Lion members and had perfect attendance since 1985. Gary received a Melvin Jones Fellowship for his service, the highest award in Lions. He loved his family, especially his grandchildren, and could always be spotted on the sidelines or in the crowd cheering them on at their school and sporting events. Gary also liked fishing and hunting.
He will be missed by his dear wife, Gisela Blish of Sturgeon Bay; son, Robert Blish of Green Bay; two grandchildren, Jennifer and Ryan Nesbitt; and friends.
Gary was welcomed Home by his parents, Edwin and Mildred Blish; daughter, Rosemarie Nesbitt; grandson, Justin Nesbitt; and two brothers, Jim and Russell Blish.
Funeral services will be held at Bay View Lutheran Church with Pastor Tim Malek and Pastor Jerry Groth officiating. Military honors by the United States Army and AMVETS Post 51 will follow at the church. Gary will be laid to rest in St. Joseph Cemetery.
