Monica M. Pivonka, age 89, a resident of Manitowoc Health and Rehabilitation Center, Manitowoc and formerly of Cato, died Saturday evening, May 9, 2015 at the Manitowoc Health and Rehabilitation Center surrounded by her loving family.
She was born on April 29, 1926 in Whitelaw, daughter of the late Joseph and Agnes (Lemberger) Meidl. Monica graduated from St. Michaels Parochial Grade School and then attended Mishicot High School. On October 17, 1944, she married Gordon E. Schmidt. He preceded her in death on April 10, 1973. Monica later married Harold "Bud" Pivonka on September 22, 1978. He also preceded her in death in 2003. Together, Monica and Gordon operated a farm in the Town of Cato. She was well known as a greeter at Copps and WalMart for many years. She also was a long time member of the American Legion Auxilary, Christian Mothers of St. Mary's, Clarks Mills, was responsible for flower decorations at the church, and was past president of the Clarks Mills Sanitary District, and was instrumental in its founding. Monica also enjoyed playing Santa Claus for family and friends for many years.
Survivors include eight daughters and six sons-in-law: Gloria Mankins and her fiancé John Reis, Manitowoc, Mary Isaacson, Manitowoc, Susan (Thomas) Phillip, Hilbert, Brenda (Keith) Johnson, Valders, Marjorie Schmidt Zajdel and Bob Zajdel, Porterfield, Wisconsin, Julie (Guy) Dehne, Newton, Janet (Steve) Kornely, Whitelaw, Ann (Tim) Klein, Manitowoc; two sons and one daughter-in-law: John Schmidt, Valders, Joe (Doreen) Schmidt, Valders; Kathy Lorenz, Chilton; 42 grandchildren; 66 great-grandchildren; 9 great-great-grandchildren; four sisters and two brothers-in-law: Sally (John) Divita, Chicago, Mary Ann Mutchek, Oklahoma, Elaine Bohacek, Maribel, Sandy (Gary) Kohlbeck, Whitelaw; two brothers and three sisters-in-law: Joseph (Geisla) Meidl, Wabeno, Wisconsin, Roger (Colleen) Meidl, Whitelaw, Wisconsin, and Bernita Meidl, Neenah, Wisconsin. Nieces, nephews, relatives and other friends also survive.
She was further preceded in death by one son: Gordon; two grandson's: Paul Johnson and Joshua Barbeau; two sons-in-law: James Mankins and Glenn Isaacson; one sister and three brothers-in-law: Rita (John) Schuh, Bill Mutchek, and Ray Bohacek; and one brother: Kenneth Meidl.
Funeral Services will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Thursday, May14, 2015 at St. Mary's Catholic Church, Clarks Mills. Officiating at the Mass of Christian Burial will be the Rev. Richard Klingeisen with burial to follow services at St. Mary's Cemetery, Clarks Mills.
The family will greet relatives and friends at St. Mary's Catholic Church, Clarks Mills on Wednesday, May 13 from 4:00 p.m. until 7:30 p.m. with a prayer service to follow at 7:30 p.m. led by the Rev. Richard Klingeisen. Visitation will continue Thursday morning, May 14, 2015 from 9:30 a.m. until 10:45 a.m. at St. Mary's Catholic Church, Clarks Mills.
