Mathew J. Kimmes, age 73, a Two Rivers resident, died surounded by his loving family Sunday morning, May 10, 2015 at Aurora Baycare Medical Center, Green Bay.

He was born on October 25, 1941 in Two Rivers, son of the late Joseph and Amy (Schroeder) Kimmes.

Mathew was a graduate of Two Rivers Washington High School with the class of 1961. He then went on to study welding at Lakeshore Technical Institute. On July 24, 1965 Mathew married Carol Duerschmidt at Sacred Heart Catholic Church, Two Rivers. He was employed at Formrite Tube Company in Two Rivers before moving on to the Mirro Co. where Mathew was a maintenance welder for 32 years retiring in 2002. He enjoyed talking with people and didn't have to know someone in order to strike up a conversation. Mathew was known as 'The Mayor' of Sandy Bay Road. He was a compassionate and forgiving man who was always willing to help. In his younger years, Mathew loved playing, listening and dancing to polkas. Mathew was proud of the fact that their home was part of the homested farm. He loved his family, especially his grandchildren.

Survivors include his wife Carol Kimmes, Two Rivers; one son: Mark Kimmes, Two Rivers; four grandchildren: Eric Kimmes, Fond du Lac, Joshua Kimmes, Madison, Amanda Kimmes, Manitowoc, Adam Kimmes, Madison; one sister and brother-in-law: Marilyn and Robert Salta, Two Rivers, one brother-in-law and three sisters-in-law: Lee and Betty Duerschmidt, Burnsville, MN, Susan Graff, Crystal Falls, MI; Sharon (Dick) Peterson, Eagle River. Nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends also survive.

He was also preceded in death by his "favorite" daughter-in-law: Debby (Roloff) Kimmes, his parents: Joseph and Amy Kimmes, father-in-law and mother-in-law: Adolph and Theresa Duerschmidt, two brothers and sisters-in-law: Arthur and Kathleen Kimmes, Roger and Jean Kimmes; and one brother-in-law: Kenneth Duerschmidt.

Funeral services will be held at 10:30 AM on Friday, May 15, 2015 at St. Peter the Fisherman Catholic Church, Two Rivers. Officiating at the Mass of Christian Burial will be the Rev. Maurice Mmegbuadimma. Entombment will take place at Knollwood Mausoleum, town of Kossuth.

The family will greet relatives and friends at the Klein and Stangel Funeral Home, Two Rivers on Thursday, May 14, 2015 from 4:00 PM until 8:00 PM. A prayer service will be held at 7:30 PM. The visitation will continue on Friday morning, May 15, 2015 at St. Peter the Fisherman Catholic Church, Two Rivers from 9:00 AM until 10:15 AM.

The Klein and Stangel Funeral Home is assisting the family with funeral arrangements.
