1st Lt. Fox was a Navigator/Bombardier on a B-25 Mitchell bomber crew with the 14th Air Force, 341st Bomb Group, 22nd Bomb Squadron in the China-Burma-India theater during WWII.

The crew of this B-25 consisted of:
1st Lt. Robert C. Lloyd, pilot
1st Lt. Neal R. McMahon, co-pilot
1st Lt. Melvin P. Fox, navigator/bombardier
Sgt. Paul E. Jackson
Sgt. Vernon Artz
Sgt. Albert Jones

January 26, 1944 - A transport plane, a C-54A, was carrying home men who had served their time in China. The plane crashed after take off at Accra, Gold Coast, Africa, killing all on board including 1st. Melvin P. Fox from the 341st Bomb Group, 22nd Bomb Squadron.

1st Lt. Lloyd, Sgt. Jackson, Sgt. Artz, and Sgt. Jones, who were not passengers on this ill-fated C54A flight, survived the war.

Mr. Jackson is still living in Connecticut.

1st Lt. Lloyd, later Major Lloyd, passed away in January 1999, Find-A-Grave # 19857547.

1st Lt. McMahon, Find-A-Grave # 104466692 was killed in the same accident as 1st Lt. Fox.

The whereabouts and dispositions of Sgt. Artz and Sgt. Jones are unknown as of 2015.
