Edward Trebs was born in Wisconsin to Hugo Trebs & Florence Duell-Trebs. He grew-up in Rock County. In December 1941, he was stationed in the Philippine Islands when Japan attacked Pearl Harbor. He was wounded on December 23, 1941, and sent to Australia on the last ship allowed out of the Philippines by the Japanese.
