Owen Gano Jones was born on October 29, 1890 in Louisville, Kentucky, and he was the son of William Owen "W O" Jones (1837–1922) and his 3rd wife Sarah M (Webb) (House) Jones (1853–1944).

He was married 1st on May 10, 1909 in Jeffersonville, Indiana to Jessie Lee Slack, who was born on July 17, 1891 in Jefferson, Kentucky, the daughter of William Slack and Mary L (Sanders) Slack. He was married 2nd to Frances C Neel (1888–1954), the daughter of Robert Bruce Neel (1839–1906) and Mary Magdalene (McKnight) Neel (1845–1931).

A printer for an electrotype company and living on Rural Route 2 out of Goodlettsville, Tennessee, Owen was 51 years old and married when he died of broncho pneumonia on November 13, 1941 at Nashville's Vanderbilt Hospital where he had been for eight days. Burial was two days later in Spring Hill Cemetery, Madison.
