He served in the armed services in World War II. After his honorable discharge he operated hardware stores in St. Charles and Montevideo before coming to Alexandria where he purchased the Coast to Coast Store in 1955.
Mr. Cornwell retired in 1964 and made his home on the south shore of Lake LeHomme Dieu. His wife, Cora, preceded him in death on May 16, 1967.
Mr. Cornwell died at Our Lady of Mercy Hospital in Alexandria, Jan. 14, 1969 at the age of 62 years. He is survived by one brother, R. D. Cornwell of Winona.
Funeral services with military honors were held Jan. 16, 1969 at the Anderson Funeral Home, Alexandria, the Rev. Ronald Gladen officiating. Interment was in Sunset Memorial, Kinkead cemetery, Alexandria. Pallbearers were: Edward Johnson, Henry Steffen, Walter Higley, Peter Erickson, Vernon Carlson, Guy Erickson.
