H. Ray Mason, 83, of 33 East Elm Street, Waynesburg, died at 9 a.m. Thursday, November 8, 1973 in the Greene County Memorial Hospital at Waynesburg, following a long illness.

He was born September 25, 1890 at Mannington, W. Va., a son of the late Curtis and Phoebe Ann McClure Mason. All of his life was spent in Greene County and he was raised by the late Mr. and Mrs. James Hatfield.

Mr. Mason was a member of the Kirby United Methodist Church and had served on various church committees and was extremely active in all church endeavors.

He was a member of the Patriotic Order of the Sons of America and was a well known Hereford cattle raiser.

Surviving are his wife, Anna Elizabeth Brown, whom he married March 5, 1918; one daughter, three sons, eight grandchildren, one great-granddaughter; one sister, Mrs. Sarah Purdy of Moundsville, W. Va. and several nieces and nephews.

Three brothers and one sister are deceased.
