OBITUARY.
MR. W. BOOTES.
This death occurred at the residence of his daughter (Mrs. Scott) on Saturday morning, of Mr. W. Bootes, of "Hillview," Tumblong. The cause of death was a simple, but evidently serious mishap: he was in the act of skinning a beast, when the knife slipped and gashed his leg. He was brought to Gundagai where his medical adviser in serted several stitches in the wound, and Mr. Bootes returned to Tum blong on Friday, naturally thinking a rest was all that was needed and the wound would heal up. But septic poisoning set in and the patient, who suffered excruciating pain, rapidly grew, weaker and passed away as stated. The late Mr. Bootes, who was 75 years of age, in his early days followed the occupation of a mail coach driver, and while so engaged met with an accident which resulted in tbe loss of one of his legs. The deceased had been a well-known figure in this district for about half a century, and was a quiet, conscientious and honest man, respected by everyone who knew him. His wife (who was a well-known and magnificent singer) predeceased him by a number of years, and the members of his family living are: Mrs. Scott and Mrs. J. and W. Andrews, of Tumblong, and Messrs. Harold and 'Joker' Bootes. The deceased was cousin of Mr. W. S. Bootes, of Bangus. The funeral took place at Tumblong on Saturday afternoon, the remains being laid to rest alongside tbose of his late wife in the C. of E. portion of the Tumblong cemetery.
