Hall of Fame Professional Tennis Player. Among the many monumental accomplishments during her include being the first tennis player to win a career Grand Slam in all events, also referred to as a "boxed set". In 1951, she won all three Wimbledon championships on the same day and was ranked number one in the sport that year. She totaled 35 career major championships, as she dominated the sport from the late 1940s into the mid 1950s. Raised in Florida, she began her legacy on the tennis court during her pre teen years and continued on the collegiate level at the University of Miami. She captured her first major victory when she partnered with Patricia Todd to win the Wimbledon Ladies Doubles Championship in 1947. Her achievements were even more astonishing, when it is considered that she suffered from osteomyelitis (a bone infection in her right leg). She was inducted into the International Tennis Hall of Fame in 1969.
