Richard C. Krapfl, 74, of Elkader, died Sunday, May 2, 2010, at Central Community Hospital in Elkader. Mass of Christian Burial: 10 a.m. Tuesday, May 4, at St. Joseph's Catholic Church in Elkader, with the Rev. Paul R. Peters as celebrant. Interment, with military honors: St. Joseph's Catholic Cemetery, Elkader. Visitation: 4 to 7 p.m. today at Leonard Funeral Home in Elkader and one hour before Mass time Tuesday at the church. Dick was born in rural route Edgewood on April 30, 1936, to Clarence and Gladys (Wonleighton) Krapfl. He attended country school during his early years then transferred to Strawberry Point, where he graduated from Strawberry Point High School. Dick served in the United States Army from 1959 through 1961. He was united in marriage to Catherine Boots; they later divorced. He then married Ula Kuhse and they later divorced. Dick worked at an auto body shop in Elkader and lastly as a carpenter for United Building Center in Elkader, where he worked for 17 years before his retirement. Survivors include his children, Theresa Heginger of Anamosa, LeAnna Krapfl of Monticello, Tracy (Dan) Barton of Manchester, Kevin Krapfl of Ryan and Joe Krapfl of Ryan; stepchildren, Ron (Deb) Kuhse of St. Olaf and Todd (Patti) Kuhse of Independence; 20 grandchildren; 29 great-grandchildren; brothers, Donald (Wanda) Krapfl of Cedar Rapids and DeWitt (Candace) Krapfl of Winthrop, sisters, Carol (Larry) Moser of Garnavillo, Lynda (Thomas) Burgin of Edgewood, Merry (Gene) Holthaus of Edgewood and Judy Anderson of Cedar Rapids; and many nieces, nephews and friends. Dick was preceded in death by his parents; daughter, Patricia Krapfl; sisters, Wendy Krapfl and Sharon Krapfl; brother, Kevin Krapfl; and two grandchildren, Nathan Crandall and Cody Miller.
