Annie was the daughter of James and Mary Jane Wheat.

Annie first married James McNellis on Sept. 22, 1888, at Atoka County, Choctaw Nation, Oklahoma. They had two children; Nancy Jane (Nannie) and William Hugh. After James' death in 1900, she married James Thomas Crist. They had three natural children; James Thomas, Jr., Anna Mae and Virgie Violree. They adopted their grandsons Joseph Floyd and John L. Crist, the natural sons of their son, James Thomas Crist, Jr.
