He was a surgeon's mate in the US Army, 1783-1798, and later a physician residing at "Windsor" about 2 miles from Nashville, TN. He was commissioned a Justice of the Peace in 1804 and represented Davidson Co. in the Tennessee House of Representatives, 1803-1805.

Suggested edit: What is your source for birth year? Boddie's "Virginia Historical Genealogies" (p. 42) says he was *baptized* 10 Feb 1777 (not 1775). So he was probably born earlier in Feb 1777.
