Charles L. Haines, aged 45, well known fur dealer and former county auditor, died at 12:45 p.m., Saturday, January 3, 1931, at his home on Coallick, Franklin township, about three miles east of Waynesburg. Mr. Haines had been in poor health for some time, suffering from a complication of ailments, but his condition did not become alarming until about a week before his death.

A son of Lindsey Haines, of Waynesburg, and Margaret Haines, now deceased, he was born September 29, 1885, at Spraggs and spent all his life in Greene county. Mr. Haines had been in the fur buying business for many years and in his business dealings gained a wide acquaintance throughout the county. In politics he was a staunch Democrat and took an active interest in the affairs of his party, servng as a member of the board of county auditors for two terms and two years ago was a candidate for register and recorder.

Mr. Haines was a member of the Coallick Methodist Protestant church, and fraternally was associated with the I. O. O. F. Lodge and for many years was a member of the P. O. S. of A.

Besides his father he is survived by his wife, Elizabeth Phillips Haines, and six children: Mrs. Robert Zimmerman, of Morrisville; Miss Margaret Haines, clerk in the office of the county commissioners, Charles, Jr., Lowell, Glenn and Eugene, all at home. There are also three sisters, namely: Mrs. Jesse McNeely and Mrs. Charles MvNeely, both of Washington, and Mrs. Jennie Stickles, of Lippencott.
