Rebecca "Becky" Cornwell Owens, 74, passed away peacefully Saturday, March 28, 2015 at Sentara Obici surrounded by her family.
She was a self-employed nail technician that worked out of her home for over 30 years as well as a sales clerk at Kid's Korner in Wakefield. Becky loved her Lord and Savior and was a faithful member of Tucker Swamp Baptist Church where she served in the children's department and nursery as well as the choir. She was an avid Virginia Tech Hokies fan and loved spending time with her family, especially the trips to the beach.
Becky was preceded in death by her parents, Raby and Esmond Boothe Cornwell and her sister, Rosalyn Cornwell Hines.
Left to cherish her memory is her husband of 53 years, Robert Joseph Owens; her children, Rebecca Lynn Owens-Goodrich and husband, Lynn; Robert Neil Owens and Wendy Owens Bass and husband, Mel; grandchildren, Mackenzie Leigh Bass, Kennedy Neal Bass and Erin Hayden Goodrich; her brother, Ronald "Ronnie" Cornwell and a host of special nieces and nephews. The family will receive friends tonight, Monday, March 30, 2015 at Tucker Swamp Baptist Church from 6:00 to 8:00 pm. A funeral service will be held at 2:00 pm Tuesday, March 31, 2015 at the church with Rev. Curt Faison officiating. Burial will follow at Ivor Cemetery. The family would like to extend a special thanks to the doctors and nurses at Sentara Obici for the special care Becky received while she was there. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to either, Tucker Swamp Baptist Church, 37527 Seacock Chapel Rd. Zuni, VA 23898, or Ivor Volunteer Rescue Squad, P.O. Box 228 Ivor, VA 23866.
